Doesn't matter that much, as you can change your secondary by the time you get the attribute points to diversify your build. Flip a coin, and when you get to the desert pick up the other one.
I'd suggest grabbing /mo and only using it for the hard rez. You don't want to get into the bad habit of overusing stuff from your secondary, like all the conjure phantasm rangers out there that bring me to tears.

Aah, the good old days when I just started playing
Anyway, (now) I would start out as a R/Mo. When your party gets wiped, as a ranger you'll often be the last man standing.

Though BHA/Epidemic is nice for caster groups, R/Mo will give you more durability. Unless it's a great skill(better than Epidemic), one skill isn't worth a secondary at that point in the game.

Go Ranger/Monk for the hard res. Ascension is extremely easy, so don't really sweat not having one ability or the other. When it comes down to it:
R/Me = a little more situational damage while getting to your ascension.
R/Mo = able to save multiple dead/stupid people after their demise.

I'd recommend /Mo for condition removal, hard rez, and all that jazz.

I would suggest R/Mo, lol R/Me never have been a good build except condition removal. Epidemic isn't that great since the area of AoE it does is really small.
Off topic:
1. If you want dmg/dps, go for R/W (can be used for thumper.)
2. If you want to attack/using pet to kill, go for R/P
3. If you want to play melee with high crit and AoE, go for R/D (reaper.)
4. If you want toucher, go for R/N
4. If you want to be balance all around, go for R/Mo.

Try both and then decide which you like best.
It's not that hard...
